Obviously, buying a new car, whether it’s brand new or used cars Belton, TX, is a big decision. Some people make a habit of buying a new set of wheels every couple years, others choose to be a little more conservative about their car buying habits, and others, still, just keep on driving their old beater until the wheels fall off.
If you don’t know which side of the fence you fall on, here are a few things you can do to figure out whether or not you’re ready to get another car just yet.
How Long Since Your Last Repair?
We’re not talking fixing a flat or changing a spark plug, but out-of-commission repairs. Any older car is going to experience a few problems from time to time, but if you’re dropping your car off at the shop on a seemingly monthly basis, then in the end, it may actually cost less to buy another car than it does to keep on repairing your old one and replacing parts.
How much do You Spend on Gas?
Another area where buying another car may actually save you more money than keeping the one you have is fuel efficiency. Older cars tend to be far less fuel efficient than newer ones, thanks in part to certain regulations put into place and, of course, the ever changing advancement of newer technology. A newer car may seem to cost more, but in the long run, it could save you thousands on gasoline in terms of fuel efficiency.
How Safe is Your Car?
Cars keep getting more fuel efficient, and they keep getting safer. If your old car doesn’t even have passenger side airbags, then it may well be time for a new one. Newer cars with fewer miles on them will run more smoothly, have more safety features and generally lend you greater peace of mind when out on the road.
Is it a Classic or a Beater?
No matter what your car’s make or model, care and attention are the real difference between a classic and a beater. A classic is a car that’s been loved and cared for over the years, by previous owners and by yourself. A beater is one that’s falling apart at the seams from neglect, apparently held together with duct tape and coat hangers. Not all “classics” are worth holding on to, especially not if repairing and refurbishing the car would cost notably more than simply buying another one.
Ultimately, of course, it comes down to cost. If you can find a used car at Shelley’s Auto Sales that you like, that you can afford and that fits your needs, then by all means, make the purchase. It shouldn’t be hard to find a car on the lot that fits your budget, and of course, there are always financing options for reliable buyers. Feel free to look around and see what strikes you. We can’t tell you when it’s time to buy a new car, but we can try and show you to the one you need when the time is right.
