Having a spare tire is something that can at times be an absolute lifesaver. A spare tire doesn't have to be expensive and in fact can be purchased very cheaply from a used tire shop. As you will be using it in emergencies only you won't need a tire that can go long distances – just one that can get you home.
This will then mean that you never end up stranded on the road side waiting for your break down company to come and bail you out. Instead you can simply replace the tire with your spare and then be able to drive once again to get home and go to the tire store.
This can be a Godsend and can possibly even help to keep you safe. Breaking down otherwise can be highly serious and especially under circumstances. For instance say you were to break down when you were popping out for supplies and you'd left the oven on. You'd then have to call a taxi from where you had the break down to get home and this would mean leaving your car vulnerable – or you'd have to stay with the car and risk your house catching fire. Likewise it is highly important for women and younger drivers to visit the tire store for a spare tire. Otherwise it is possible to get stranded in the middle of the night on the motorway when it's cold and wet. This can not only be bad for your immune system and general health, but it can turn you into a target for unsavory passers by, and likewise it can be dangerous if you're stuck next to very busy road.
All this shows just how important a spare tire is and in how many ways it can help to keep you safe. It is important however not to just use your spare tire, but to make sure that you circulate as you do – when you use a spare tire you need to either replace it with cheap tires from the tire store, or you need to replace the punctured one and put the spare back as the spare tire.
If you need to change a spare tire on your own then you will need some tools. Without these you will either have to flag someone down who can help or risk doing an unsafe job. Thus you should also make sure to carry a jack and a wrench. The jack you will use to lift the car off the ground, while the wrench will be used to unscrew and screw tires. Make sure when replacing the tire with the new one that you are careful to fully screw the bolts back on before you use it. Otherwise you might find that the wheel isn't safe and is at risk of coming off. Make sure to not only use your arm strength to tighten the wheel on, but also to kick and/or jump on it to make it truly secure. Then you will have your new tire, and much quicker and easier than waiting around.
