The good thing about most printer cartridges that are sold today is that they are refillable, meaning that you can simply take the lightweight cartridge to a printing shop and have it refilled. Then you can go back home and enjoy printing your photographs like you used to do. There's very little hassle in this. However, cartridges still tend to get broken in time. Not all cartridges are made of rock-solid structures to begin with. It all falls down to the selection of brand for the printer itself, since cartridges sold today are almost always non-portable.

Troubleshooting your printer

Printers are not easy to handle. Even those who tinker with their computers for days on end still get confused when printing paper. Time and again, printing errors are the result of software glitches. Oftentimes, however, these problems are caused by the operator's lack of knowledge in using a printer. Sometimes the printer just doesn't seem very cooperative and you would stumble with printing errors that will be a mystery to you forever.

In rare cases, the problem is with the hardware itself. By hardware, that means either the printer or the printer's cartridge. Troubleshooting a problem like this is a complex task and is not easily done by someone with meager knowledge about computers. The first thing to do when troubleshooting hardware problem is to determine whether it's the printer or the cartridge that is causing the problem. Take note that changing the cartridge, refilling your ink or uninstalling the software will not fix a broken printer. If the printer itself is broken, it's highly recommended that you bring your printer to a technician. Drop a line to the manufacturer or store if your printer is still under warranty.

Warranties

This has to be the one thing you've been thinking since you realized there was a problem with your printer. If the problem is with the printer hardware and the warranty for your product is not void yet, then you can call the manufacturer. However, most printer manufacturers don't include the cartridge to the warranty. The cartridge falls in the scope of peripherals and software. That being said, most manufacturers will not replace a broken cartridge. You will have to buy a new one if this is the case.

In buying a new printer cartridge, you need to make sure that the cartridge you buy matches the printer brand that you have. For example, if you have a Samsung laser printer, then you should get one of those Samsung laser toner cartridges. You might have heard of a universal printer cartridge somewhere already. Since it's a promising idea, there's a decent chance that it exists. In all likelihood, however, you won't be able to find it in the stores near you. Again, it's more advisable to buy a printer cartridge that is made for your printer hardware.

For further troubleshooting, follow the troubleshooting guides on the manual or look for more information about your printer on the Internet. Check your manufacturer's website for downloadable manuals as well. As an additional tip, if you are either using HP ink cartridges or Samsung laser toner cartridges, there is really only a very small chance that you will encounter problems!
