To be honest, deciding to change is hard because our culture is so centered around food and in large quantities. Everywhere we look we see fast food restaurants and our supermarkets are full of sugar filled, processed foods.
However, fat loss is possible and people are shedding the pounds and transforming their lives everyday. It all begins with taking the right steps and these steps lead to lasting weight loss, not just while you're on some "magic" diet.
Five Essential Keys to Fat Loss
1. Decision- You first have to make the decision to change. This can come about because you are sick of the way you look in the mirror, your health is deteriorating, or you just want to be around to see your children grow up. Whatever the reason, healthy fat loss starts with a decision.
2. Avoid Scams- Diet marketers are good at what they do and know how to convince people to buy worthless dieting supplements, gadgets, and shakes. None of that junk works, so don't believe the infomercials folks, but choose a plan that's grounded in solid nutrition and that's backed by real research. If something promises you fast weight loss without you doing any work, it's a scam.
3. Nutrition- Fat loss is about 75% about what foods you are eating. An effective program teaches you how to retrain your taste buds away from processed foods and to instead choose whole, nutritious foods that nourish your body the right way. Refined sugars and refined carbs are a huge part of the problem, so pick a plan that teaches you how to live without them the majority of the time.
4. Moving- Although moving is only 25% of the equation, it's an important part of healthy weight loss. Our bodies were designed to be moving and they work best when we keep our muscles stimulated. This burns calories and promotes health. Choose a diet plan that encourages exercise, but in ways that you find enjoyable.
5. Lifestyle- Healthy eating and exercise has to become part of your lifestyle if you want the results to become permanent. If you choose a plan that is too restrictive, then you will most likely fail. Pick one that is reasonable, in that you will be able to incorporate its concepts and meal plans into your life long term.
By using the above five steps as your guide, you will have the best chance at losing weight and gaining health possible. No longer will you be a slave to excuses and bad eating. You will learn to be in control of your body by making wise dietary choices.
