If you have very bad teeth then it's important to visit a dentist and have them looked at. You might need cosmetic dentistry techniques in order to restore their appearance and add whiteness and straightness, or you might need to simply have them cleaned or get some advice from the dentist.
However dentists are solely responsible for the health of your teeth, and while they can certainly work wonders (and particularly with cosmetic dentistry), they nevertheless are only one piece of the puzzle. Actually more important is that you make sure to look after your teeth on a day to day basis and there are a lot of things you need to do to make sure that you can do this. Here we will look at how to improve your teeth through the way you live your life so that when you visit dentists they have minimal amount of work to do.
The first thing to do is to make sure that you brush your teeth well and often. You should brush your teeth at least twice a day and that means once in the morning and once later at night. If you don't do this then your teeth will build up with bacteria and you will find it has a range of negative impacts on them, your gums and your general health. As well as brushing your teeth you should also be sure to floss regularly, and to use mouthwash. Doing these things will help to reduce the amount of bacteria in your mouth, and it will help to make you healthier in general.
At the same time though you also need to watch what you eat throughout the day. Even if you are very thorough with a toothbrush later on, you will find that this is only able to reduce the bacteria and plaque in your mouth so much, and it's still necessary for you to try and avoid building this up more than necessary. The bacteria in your mouth uses sugar as food and it leaves plaque as a byproduct, and this is why eating lots of sugar results in more plaque and worse teeth. So be kind to your teeth and try not to eat more sugar than necessary.
At the same time you can also benefit by increasing some things in your diet to ensure you need fewer trips to the dentist. This includes for instance eating more fiber which isn't easily broken down in the mouth and so will 'scrape' against your teeth like a tiny toothbrush.
There are many activities meanwhile that can stain your teeth, while at the same time damaging your gums and increasing your chances of getting mouth cancer or a tumor. Smoking of course here is the big one, and if you smoke then quitting is one of the best things you can do for your teeth (as well as your wallet and your general health). If you drink a lot of tea and coffee then that too can be bad for your teeth and leave a yellow stain so avoiding that is a good idea as well.
