If you are suffering with an alcohol addiction then getting addiction treatment or alcohol rehab and trying to overcome the problem is absolutely essential. If you are currently struggling from something akin to an alcohol addiction and are considering alcohol rehab, then you should bite the bullet and go ahead with it as soon as possible – not to is to let the condition progress and worsen and to find yourself with a far more advanced addiction ultimately. Here we will look at some of the damage that can be wrought by an alcohol addiction and thus illustrate the importance of addressing the problem swiftly.

Liver Disease: If you have a lot of alcohol in your system then it's the job of your liver and kidneys to clear it out which means they are over taxed and can result in severe problems for your organs. Continuing to drink can result in potential lethal liver or kidney disease or even cancer.

Brain Damage: In the short term of course alcohol addiction does damage to your brain and renders you without your usual sense of judgment. However as time goes on it can also do permanent and irreversible damage to your brain in the form of korsakoff's syndrome. Ever come across a tramp who rambles and shouts nonsense in the street? That's probably due to the damage that the alcohol has done to their neurons which is similar to the damage caused by Alzheimer's or a degenerative brain disease. And even in the shorter term you can experience forgetfulness and mood swings and other problems as a result. The sooner you get alcohol rehab the more damage you can prevent.

Money: Alcohol rehab may be costly, but now compare that cost to the price of buying countless bottles of wine or cans of beer. This is of course far more expensive and if you are spending money on alcohol then you are simply throwing your hard earned money down the drain.

Relationships: If you drink a lot then this will undoubtedly put a strain on all your relationships. While you are drunk you might act pitiful, or angry, or emotional and you might embarrass yourself. People won't want to spend time with you and you might find yourself doing things that permanently damages your relationship with them. Furthermore though they will also try to help you the rest of the time – try to talk you out of it and try to take it away from you, and with you not in your sound mind you can end up feeling victimized or blamed and pushing away the people who care about you. You can also do damage to other people – to your children if they see you killing yourself and acting foolishly, to your partner if you spend their money, to your employers if you embarrass yourself at the office party etc.

Safety: Being drunk is also simply not safe, and every time you get drunk you put yourself and others at risk – it's easier to get into fights, to fall over, or to make huge errors in judgment such as trying to drive.
