While your alive, there's unlikely to be any doubt that protecting your family is one of the most important things on your agenda. In fact many of us work almost exclusively in order to be able to support and care for our family and loved ones, and this is a great responsibility that many of us feel – but that we nevertheless also enjoy. You get pleasure out of seeing your family happy, feeding them well, taking them on holidays, ensuring your children get education and generally being the provider. And most importantly you would probably never even think of not looking after your family – of letting them go hungry, of keeping your money to yourself, or of forcing them to have to move home through lack of finances.
So if you wouldn't do it while you're alive – don't do it when you're gone. Of course you might be wondering how you're supposed to pay for your family when you're no longer around, and surely you can be excused for passing on?
Well actually there is something you can do – not after the fact but now while you're still alive and this means taking the time to set things up to help your family out after you've passed on. By being thoughtful, by being proactive, and by spending the money you can protect your family in many ways and help them through what will be a highly difficult time.
When we lose a member of our family, this is of course a highly upsetting experience and one that can cause the family incredible grief. During this time however the last thing they are going to need is the financial strain that can come from losing a provider.
This is an expensive time anyway and in the wake of a death in the family there are lots of things to pay for – of course these include the funeral costs which can be very high. If you want to be sent out in style then you need to pay for life insurance so that you can help your family to foot the bill. But more to the point you will be leaving one parent alone and this will mean that they will have lost the vast majority of their income – and if they were a stay-at-home parent then they may even have lost all of their income.
This then leads to their having to get a job and that in turn means that your children are left alone, or with a Nanny. This costs money in itself, but it also means that the children who have just lost their Mother or Father now have to spend most of their time with a stranger, or alone in the house. And the other parent will not have the experience or the start in their career that you had if they previously stayed at home so they will not be able to earn as much – this then leaves them struggling to support the family still on lower income and means they will possible have to even sell the house and move elsewhere.
You can protect them against all this from beyond the grave with life insurance and this can be your parting gift to them. Make sure that you look after them then, when they need you most, as you have all the rest of your life.
